Padel Americano for 12 players

Twelve is the first size with a real decision in it: three courts and nobody rests, or two courts and a third of the group is off at any moment. Both work, and they make very different games. Here is the three-court schedule, and what changes if you only have two.

36 different pairs over 6 rounds, no pair repeated. Nobody sits out.

Three courts: everybody plays, nobody meets everybody

Twelve players fill three courts exactly, so the game runs with no resting at all. In six rounds you get thirty-six different pairs, and no player partners anybody twice.

What you do not get is a complete rotation. Each player has eleven possible partners, so a full Americano would need eleven rounds, which is close to three hours of padel. Nobody books that. At six rounds every player meets a bit over half the group as a partner, and the rest only as opponents.

This is not a flaw to fix, it is the trade twelve makes. If meeting everybody matters more than playing every round, split into two groups of six as separate games rather than stretching one of them.

Two courts: a third of the group is always off

With two courts, eight play and four rest each round. Over three rounds everyone has rested once, which is tidy, and over six rounds everyone has rested twice. Each player ends the game with four matches instead of six.

That is a third less padel for the same ninety minutes, and it is the right choice only if the third court genuinely is not available or the group would rather pay for two. Twelve on two courts is the arrangement most likely to produce the complaint that the game felt like standing around.

Scoring twelve players

With twelve the table at the end is long enough that ties stop being rare. Decide the tie-break before the first round, and prefer points conceded over head to head: with thirty-six pairings in play, two tied players have often never met.

Keep one scoresheet rather than one per court. Three courts finishing at different times is the normal state of a twelve-player game, and three separate sheets is how a round goes unrecorded.

Questions organisers ask

How many courts do you need for 12 players?
Three if you want everybody on court every round. Two works, with four people resting each round, but each player ends up with a third less play.
How many rounds for a 12-player Americano?
Six fits a ninety-minute booking and gives thirty-six different pairs. A complete rotation, where everyone partners everyone, would take eleven rounds.
Can you play an Americano with 12 players on 2 courts?
Yes. Eight play and four rest each round; over three rounds everyone has rested exactly once.

After the schedule, the game still has to run

An Americano schedule is the easy half of the game. The hard half is everything that moves: somebody drops out an hour before, two more ask to come, and the score lives on a phone that keeps locking itself.

That is what MyPadel does. You open a game and send one link. Players put themselves on the list and take themselves off it, the pairs rebuild when the number changes, and the standings update on everyone's screen as the scores come in.

The generator above stays free and account-free, always. The live game needs a free organiser account, because a game has to belong to somebody.
